What you will do
As the Director of Programs, you will drive the strategic development, execution and ongoing refinement of Hands On Atlanta’s programs, ensuring an impactful experience for volunteers and community partners. Our programs address educational outcomes, literacy, STEM, child hunger, parent involvement and more. We achieve our community impact through partnerships with 150+ Atlanta-based nonprofits and schools.

This position reports directly to the CEO, is a member of the senior leadership team and serves as the primary programmatic liaison to the Board of Directors.

A lover of Atlanta and advocate for everyone in our community. You think big and have a knack for building win-win partnerships. You can effortlessly pair your personable and effective communication skills with your overall strategic approach to developing and managing programs.

You’re a realist and love the details. An excellent tactician who can see opportunities for growth. As far as you are concerned, anything worth doing is worth doing right. You stay focused and nothing falls through the cracks on your watch. You volunteer for new challenges without waiting to be asked. You’re going to take ownership of the time you spend with us and truly make a difference.

You Have

  • Significant experience as a program officer or senior leader in the nonprofit sector (10+ years)
  • A track record of success designing and implementing large-scale, school-based partnerships (5+ years)
  • The grit, determination and vision to get the job done
  • The team building, supervisor, and coaching chops to elevate a team of 7 full-time staff and 50+ AmeriCorps and part-time tutors (5+ years)
  • An ability to relate to and meet the needs of diverse stakeholders – from corporate executives to volunteers to nonprofit and school professionals
  • A “level head” that is calm, collaborative and solutions-oriented under pressure
  • Experience with budget development and oversight
  • Experience navigating Atlanta’s nonprofit and school landscape
  • The “growth mindset” to learn and find ways to improve our programs and processes
  • Knowledge of volunteer recruitment, management, and recognition best practices
  • Passion for Hands On Atlanta’s mission and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
