The Development Coordinator – Major Gifts will be part of a dynamic team of professionals devoted to raising funds to advance Atlanta Humane Society’s purpose and mission. He/she will play a key role in ensuring a timely and professional development program within AHS. The Coordinator carries out details of fundraising and stewardship efforts in coordination with the AHS Development Department. The Coordinator supports corporate relations, grant and gift reports and major donors moves management.

  • Monitor and track progress toward fiscal year end goals
  • Gift/grant management including monitoring existing grants to ensure that all grant-related requirements are achieved; maintain communication with the grantor and with grant partners, if any
  • Schedule and prepare logistics and materials for donor meetings
  • Assist with developing and updating fundraising collateral and materials (proposals, reports, presentations, etc.) for print and online, including writing and editing language
  • Monitor sponsorship contracts with partners to ensure timely and adequate compliance with contractual terms and to maintain relationships
  • Draft, edit, prepare donor correspondence on behalf of the Vice President of Development or President and CEO; work closely with Executive Assistant in Office of the President
  • Assist Donor Relations Manager in donor stewardship projects such as custom reports to donors and Kennel Sponsor updates
  • Track Stock Transfers and provide appropriate acknowledgements
  • Assist with the Guardians Circle $1,000+ and President’s Circle $10,000+ acknowledgements
  • Coordinate greetings and recognition gifts to donors on behalf of AHS leadership
  • Work closely with development staff to streamline the processing of naming agreements, sponsorship MOU’s, major gifts, and planned giving communications
  • Manage the Moves Management system for portfolios of major donors assigned to President and CEO and Vice President of Development including helping to schedule meetings and entering call reports
  • Work collaboratively with the Donor Relations Manager to manage donor recognition activities, create customized major donor stewardship, donor recognition panels in shelter lobbies and fund reports
  • Coordinate the Board of Directors Development Committee meetings including taking minutes
  • Assist with major donor tour duties including creating agendas and collateral materials, communicating with donors, preparing briefing papers, assembling gifts, etc.
  • Interface effectively and proactively with donors, volunteers, senior administrators and staff
  • Coordinate high-priority projects and perform analysis of relevant fundraising issues for executive review
  • Promote superb customer service approaches that create and heighten lasting relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations as well as AHS staff, to meet Atlanta Humane Society’s overall goals and objectives
  • Heavy involvement with pre-event preparation and onsite event activities
  • Must obtain a thorough understanding of AHS volunteer policies and procedures in order to oversee volunteer involvement with administrative tasks with the Development Department
  • Other duties as requested
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-years previous development experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, provide follow-up proficiently, and make effective timely decisions, despite tight deadlines and competing requirements
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and other Development staff members and staff members across campuses
  • Experience coordinating major donor tours and special events to include securing location, planning menus, making arrangements with caterers and vendors, preparing invitation lists and tracking RSVPs
  • Working knowledge of data gathering techniques and ability to analyze data and information to prepare considered, logical donor briefing papers, prospect research, summaries and reports
  • Working knowledge of Development best practices, preferred
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge software including maintaining database and report writing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Close attention to detail, strong grammar and punctuation skills, knowledge of grammar rules
  • Must utilize discretion and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with donors, volunteers, staff and leadership
  • Ability to utilize effective problem solving/decision making skills
  • Ability to travel to various events in personal or AHS vehicle
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required for special events
